How to Bypass Microsoft Account Requirement in Windows 11 25H2: Easy Local Account Setup Guide

October 22, 2025 By Unite Innovations

Tired of being nudged into using a Microsoft account every time you set up Windows 11? The recent 25H2 update has made it tougher to skip, but there’s a straightforward workaround to create a local account instead. This keeps things simple, private, and free from unnecessary cloud ties or promotions. In this step-by-step tutorial, I’ll show you how to use built-in commands during installation to get a clean local setup on your PC. Here’s an easy way to bypass Microsoft account Windows 11 25H2. Perfect for new installs or fresh starts—let’s dive in and take back control of your system.

Understanding Microsoft’s Push for Accounts in Windows 11

Microsoft argues that bypassing the sign-in skips important setup steps for optimal configuration. But really, those steps are geared toward integrating you into their services more than anything essential. When you go the Microsoft account route, you’re hit with a series of screens prompting you to:

  • Restore data from backups
  • Tailor your setup for work, gaming, or entertainment
  • Link your smartphone
  • Enable photo backups with complimentary 5GB cloud space
  • Sync with Microsoft Edge
  • Trial Microsoft 365 services
  • Opt for additional storage plans
  • Connect to Outlook for email

These are clever ways to promote their ecosystem and gather user data, especially since Windows shifted from one-time purchases to service-based revenue post-Windows 10. If you value privacy or just want a no-frills experience, sticking with a local account avoids all that— no extra apps or commitments needed.

Reliable Way to Set Up a Local Account in Windows 11 Installation

This method leverages Windows’ own command tools to establish and enable a local admin account mid-setup. It’s safe, doesn’t require downloads, and has been verified on Windows 11 Home 25H2. Follow along precisely.

Step 1: Kick Off the Standard Installation

Launch the Windows 11 setup process normally. Go through the early prompts:

  • Choose your region and keyboard preferences.
  • Decline a secondary keyboard if offered.
  • Assign a device name or accept the default.

You’ll hit the network connection or account sign-in page soon—this is the spot where the account push happens.

Step 2: Launch Command Prompt

On the sign-in screen:

  • Hold down Shift + F10 to bring up an admin Command Prompt.

Step 3: Execute User Account Commands

In the prompt, input these commands sequentially. Swap "your_username" with your preferred account name (quotes included). Hit Enter after each:

  1. net user "your_username" * /add
(Sets up the local user. Set a password when asked—confirm it or skip for none.)
  2. net localgroup administrators "your_username" /add
(Grants admin privileges to the user.)
  3. net user "your_username" /active:yes
    (Enables the account.)
  4. net user "your_username" /expires:never
    (Stops password expiration.)
  5. net user administrator /active:no
(Deactivates the default admin for better security.)
  6. net user "DefaultUser0" /delete
(Removes the interim setup user—mind the uppercase “U”.)

Run net user afterward to check the list. Your new account should appear with the built-in ones like Guest.

Step 4: Modify the Registry

From the same prompt:

  • Enter regedit to access the Registry Editor.

Head to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OOBE

  • Remove these entries by right-clicking and deleting:
  • DefaultAccountAction
  • DefaultAccountSAMName
  • DefaultAccountSID
  • Locate LaunchUserOOBE, right-click to rename it to SkipMachineOOBE (exact casing).
  • Verify its value is 1 by double-clicking.

Exit the editor.

Step 5: Restart and Finalize

  • Type shutdown /r /t 0 to reboot immediately.

Post-restart, you’ll see the login for your local account. Input your password (if any), and setup will wrap up without any account prompts or ads. You’ll arrive at a ready-to-use desktop.

Key Tips and Considerations

  • Privacy Controls: This doesn’t turn off data tracking. Use utilities like O&O ShutUp10 or similar for deeper privacy tweaks.
  • How It Succeeds: Older shortcuts like “bypassnro” are fading, but this command-based tactic still works—for the moment. Updates might change that.
  • Verified On: Windows 11 25H2 Home. May differ for Pro or Enterprise editions.
  • Safety First: Back up files before registry changes.

Keep your PC setup on your terms—skip the extras and enjoy simplicity. If this helped, share it!
